If you were to ask me what was the most rewarding aspect of the Texas Homeschool Expo, which I attended just last month, I would have to say there were actually two. One was talking to parents. The main thing we talked about was how to help Christian families find enough quality materials to use in training up their children. This applies to fun and edifying bedtime stories for the littles, meaningful reading for middle-grade children, and a deeper understanding of good literature for secondary students--all with a Christian emphasis.
I am thrilled to see whole families walking up and down the aisles of an event such as this one, looking for materials to enhance their children's understanding of the universe God created, the life he has bestowed upon us, and his huge gift of love poured out upon us so sacrificially. I love seeing moms and dads involved in the process of educating their children and doing it concientiously. And I am honored to have the opportunity to speak with these amazing people and share my vision with them.

But even more than talking to them, I enjoyed listening and finding out what they want for their children.
When you are raising your children, there is nothing more important than seizing the moment while they are young and instilling in them the values you know they must embrace to carry them through the rest of their lives. This is what these parents want.
It's not about whether you homeschool or not. It's about whether you pass those values on to your children, regardless of what educational model you choose. It's about taking time to do bedtime reading with your younger children, being open to talk about anything your older children need to talk about, and reminding all of them, regardless of age, that you love them and God is always there for them.

What do you do to share the Word of God with your children? I'd love to hear your suggestions. I also love to see pictures of parents reading to their children and would like to have some of these to share in future newsletters and blogposts. Please click on the blue button below to go to my webiste. Within the website, click on the "chat" button. When you send a message through this chat, it will come to me as an email. I would ove to receive pictures of your family during family reading time, or just give me a sentence or two about what you do to teach your children about Jesus. I can't wait to hear from you.
And while you're in the website, don't forget to take amoment to browse and see what's there! My website is chock full of excellent books to enhance your family reading time whether your child is ready for the challenge of a novel or prefers a bright, beautiful picture book. Each of my books has a separate listing in the website with a delightful description of what it is all about. Think of it as browsing the shelves at the bookstore or library but with all the books vetted for a positive Christian message.
